seth troxler’s agenda setting play it say it label is back with more summer heat, this time from detroit based duo ataxia. hailing from detroit, this pair has recently played the famous movement festival in their home city for the fifth time, work with top labels like nervous records and culprit la and have already impressed with a fine ep on leftroom this year. their sound is designed to get the party started, and after already releasing on this label in 2016 they are now back with three more essential tracks. up first, the terrific ‘time original’ is a fluid and wriggling tech cut with busy synth lines scurrying about over driving drums. it’s dark and freaky with poised chord stabs and the whole thing cannot fail to get floors moving. then comes ‘supertouch’, which is a superbly slick acid number. weird bleeps and clipped vocals add an unhinged edge to the urgent rubbery drums and the whole thing is a mind melting number that will take any set to the next level. last of all is the vital ‘villains’, seven inventive minutes of gurgling bass, alien sound design and wonky synth lines that all warp around each other and melt your mind as they do so. colourful and full of character thanks to a rapped vocal line, this one is a real party anthem in the making. across all three cuts here this talented duo really show off their wide range of studio skills in some style.

* nan kolé, producer, dj and head of influential label on-the-rise, gqom oh!, returns to black acre for his debut proper with ‘bayefal’, after first collaborating with nervous horizon’s wallwork on his ‘facts / fyah’ 12” at the back end of 2016. * originally from rome, although now a resident of london, nan kolé has been a major player in the expansion of durban’s gqom sound after discovering it in early 2015. through his label, gqom oh!, he honed in on a network of south african producers operating out of durban, unlocking the keys to a world of music largely untapped by audiences outside of southern and western africa. * ‘bayefal’, he explains, was made while still living in rome and was inspired by a group he formed called pepesoup, which consisted of an italo-liberian singer, karima 2g, and senegalese percussionist and singer, moustapha mbengue. “for me, he (mbengue) was a mentor and taught me a lot spiritually but also mentally”, kolé explains, “and without his hard work i wouldn’t be here for sure. this track is dedicated to him, as he s a muslim bayefal.” a joyous, steadfast drum workout made in the carnival spirit, ‘bayefal’ also serves as an ode to his love for both west african rhythms and more specifically, the gqom sound. * on the flip, ‘malumz’ — backed up with two dark, brooding remixes by durban’s citizen boy and crew, formation boyz — is another track rooted in personal experience. “malumz is a tribute to my gqom oh! family”, kolé explains. “they call me malumz, which in zulu means ‘uncle’. the first time citizen boy called me ‘malumz’, it was overwhelming — i felt a change in my relationship with all the guys, because they started to treat me more as a family member, which meant a lot.” * the original mix, a stark, pulsing drum-track dotted with playful whistles and bleepy sampling again celebrates kolé’s fascination with the gqom sound, while first citizen boy and then formation boyz flip ‘malumz’ with harsher, grittier tones and crunching, industrial textures.

one of the holy grail of the minimal synth and one of the most obscure musical projects ever produced in italy is finally reissued on mannequin records. originally released in 1981 by broadbean records, a sub-label of lm records, flo & andrew only release take suicide was home-recorded and home-mixed by the duo in bologna, using early drum machines like the boss dr-55 and the korg kr-55, analog synthesizers, guitar, saxophone, tape loops. flo & andrew music is truly unique and exemplifies the fact that limitation can be the perfect source for creativity. the title-track and to committ suicid’ travel through contort and nervous synth sounds and loops, taking somehow inspiration from the no wave heroes, while japanese girls is nothing less than a beautiful minimal electronics track in the mythology of the futuristic rise of japanese country. recently (re)discovered, ‘take suicide’ is a milestone of the european minimal synth singles and is not really a coincidence that a young generations of producers take it as inspiration (you can see take suicide floating in the tracklist of artists as helena hauff and ngly). another must have in your collection / record bag! mastering by ruud 66.

rroxymore’s music is an intriguing, one-off blend of contrasting textures - organic and synthetic, icy and warm - a fresh step in dance music. real name hermione frank, the french musician and producer has a long history making music in various ways, with various people, before settling in berlin and concentrating on the solo project that refines it all.

june records presents guilty pleasure by dimdj. dimdj is a recording artist from thessaloniki, greece and a veteran dj in the greek underground scene. he is also a member of the groups anopolis and audio atlas. this record consists of live acid house recordings on the a side while on the b side the atmosphere is more cosmic.

möd3rn is a global project from 3 wellknown artists who wanted to give a side project from their own solo career. it s a band, producing, playing live but it s also a label created only for the trio productions. each releases will propose 3 tracks from the 3 artists. for that first one the famous trio propose 3 huges bombs mö4, mö5 and mö6, 3 huge techno killer using rough skins with raw edit. speech less and listen to that we can call pure techno. while carefully handling their respective careers, postponing then their obvious collaboration, möd3rn trio s members have capitalized its desire and now deliver its mere substance, in the rightest moment, where, simply, all the distant forces converge. the six daring, expert hands merge now into a unique entity, unanimously moving within the same effort towards techno music. of the distinct identities merely remains the ethereal, synthetic essence devoted to the group, and the common musical passion that leads it. the formula is elaborated freely: each one s adjunctions -subtle keys, nervous chords, underground blows, rhythmical uproars- pour into a thick maelstrom, opaque, condensing detroit s grieving sensibilities as well as last decade s bewildering cacophonies. the potion obtained is irresistible, an ecstatic hybrid, prodigiously actual, that renders all the genre s diversity and dynamism. chance intertwined their paths and now the three companions celebrate both the friendship that resulted and the good fortune that has driven it, by improvising live together as one faceless, solid body agitated by the urge of dance and music, composing the material that shall be processed later on to form their eponym label s releases.
